I’m often blown away with how often Astrology hits the nail on the head. Whether it is in my personal life or the world. As above, so below right? Over the past years I notice interesting parallels in my chart as each year unravels and the Sun travels through each house. I’m usually quite blown away by how accurate the themes tend to be.
For those of us here that are just starting to dip our toes into the world of astrology, I will break it down.
At the moment we were born and we take our first breath, the sign rising to the east at that moment becomes our ascendant. That is why having an accurate birth time is so important in astrology. The ascendant changes frequently throughout the day and an accurate time gives us our true rising sign and degree. Which in turn gives us accurate housing through the signs.
There are 12 “houses” in astrology. Each of them representing something in our lives. Each sign (Aries → Pisces) will fall into a house in your chart showing what kind of energy is being expressed in each area of your life. Planets falling into a house add yet another layer of dimension.

You can imagine it like a real neighborhood where every house has it’s own personality and way of expressing itself (sign), and the characters who live inside (planets) are expressive and add a layer of dimension to the neighborhood.
House Themes
Ascendant / 1st House – The Ascendant is determined by the moment we take our first breath. It is the way we chose to meet the world head on. Not a mask. Ultimately it is how we fuse our personality with our external environment and the world. It is the filter that allows us to engage with the external and helps us determine what things are for us in the long run.
2nd House – Resources. Resources don’t just pertain to what we have and our material belongings. Resources also have to do with our self-esteem, skill set, how we value ourself, as well as our belongings.
3rd House – From the material realm we cross into the world of more intellectual pursuits. The third House rules the mind and communication, how we express our intellect and how we engage with our thoughts and express them. It also deals with short distance travel and early education as well as our experience with our siblings.
4th House- Moving from thinking to feeling. The fourth house determines what makes us feel comfortable and nurtured. Our home environment and how we express ourselves within that realm. Our families, parents and the things that make us feel nurtured.
5th House- From the realm of home we move into play. The 5th house is about harnessing our creativity, individuality and self expression. It also deals with our hobbies and what we do with our free time that brings us joy and passion.
6th House- We move from pleasure to routine and our daily lives. Our routines and habits create so much in our life our health, how we feel, how we choose to engage in “service”. What are we devoted to? How do our habits or even hobbies allow us to be in service to something? What structures in our lives do we emphasize to ensure we are well?
7th House – From “me” to “we”. The 7th house is a house of partnerships. That includes long term relationships, marriage, business partners, and even the people in our life that we would consider competition or an enemy. It also shows us what type of people we are drawn to.
8th House- Sex, death, and rebirth. The 8th house of a chart is often a place of change and taboos. It’s the house where what we may inherit in this life time from others is shown to us, i.e. estates and inheritance. It shows us what “new chapters” are being opened or closed.
9th House- Once we have experienced a major change of some sort, an ending or beginning it shapes our beliefs and ethics. From there we may be more inclined to see more of the world, expand our philosophies, go back to school or take an apprenticeship. Ultimately the 9th house is about expanding our world view in some way.
10th House- The highest point of the chart (the midheaven) showing us how we are often perceived in our public lives or even online. It deals with our “calling” in this life. It is the work we do that helps us to feel complete in some way, as well as our reputation.
11th House- The eleventh house rules the “collective”, guilds (if we wanna get nerdy with it) groups, clubs and even larger organizations that we are a part of. Ultimately it is a house that deals with community.
12th House- The final house. The 12th house represents the completion of something, a final chapter where we take a deep dive into our subconscious and sometimes sorrow. It is an intuitive house where we rest and summarize, sometimes in isolation before we start the journey over again.
Scorpio Season marks my 12th house. I often notice I sequester myself away during my 12th house journey and when the Sun reaches my Sagittarius Ascendent I tend to feel reborn. So for now I’ll swim in the depths and unknown, journal a bit about what chapters are ending and all that I’ve learned this year.
I encourage you to take a peak at what planets are touching which part of your chart currently and how that makes you feel and what areas of your life you notice are being highlighted.
